Starting January 1, 2025, the minimum gross salary in Romania will increase to 4,050 EUR per month, according to a government decision announced by the Ministry of Labor and Social Solidarity. This represents a 9.46% increase compared to the current level of 3,700 EUR, established in July 2024. The new value is based on a predictable mechanism anchored in European regulations and aims to ensure a gradual alignment of minimum incomes with the dynamics of the average salary.
The adopted calculation formula provides that the minimum salary be set at half of the average gross salary across the economy, ensuring an annual update.
Effects of the Minimum Salary Increase: More Benefits for Employees
Once the new value enters into force, the minimum hourly income will increase to 24.49 EUR, up from 22.024 EUR for a full schedule. Approximately 1.8 million employees will benefit directly from this measure.
The increase in the minimum salary influences legal obligations, including the calculation of contributions for persons with disabilities and traffic fine points, reported at the new level of 4,050 EUR.
